The Donner Pass Trail is an almost 9 mile trail with many different access points. This area is crisscrossed with forest service roads and other trails. The stats on this page are for a section of the trail starting near the Buckhorn Ranger Station off County Road 44H and traveling south to forest road 154(Greer Rd), which makes for an easy out and back hike. This is a pleasant if unremarkable hike through forest with some mountain views.
A common addition to the Donner Pass Trail is the Lookout Mountain Summit Trail where you get great views. Lookout Mountain is south of the area described above. The hike to Lookout Mountain is often started from other trail access points and even from other trails in the area.
The Donner Pass Trail allows motor bikes in sections and is also a popular area with hunters, so wear orange or avoid during hunting season and watch out for motor bikes.
