Description

This is a great hike from the plains up into the foothills with views of hogbacks, meadows and the plains below. The hike starts at Coyote Ridge Natural Area. Take the Coyote Ridge Trail, which starts flat and quickly climbs almost 600 ft into the foothills. You'll get great views of the plains and cities below. There's also a chance to spot wildlife. After about 2 miles you cross over into Rimrock Open Space. The only way to access Rimrock is through Coyote Ridge or the Blue Sky Trail. Continuing on to the Rimrock Trail, you travel through a beautiful valley with terrific views of the hogbacks. At the end of the Rimrock trail there is a small loop that provides access to the Blue Sky Trail. After finishing the small loop you hike back out the way you came in. There is also an optional 1/4 mile interpretive loop called the Hidden Clues Trail, which is near the cabin on the Coyote Ridge Trail.
